Principles of Success Motivational Program
An outreach and motivational program for young men of color
Program Rules
First-Time Participants
1. Applicants must be between 13 and 17 years old. All applicants are required to submit an application and participate in an in-person interview.

Interviews will last approximately 35 minutes.

Business attire is highly recommended for the interview process.

The interview will not be conducted if the applicant is late.

Applicants must have some knowledge about the Principles of Success Motivational Program and its purpose, and be able to articulate why they desire to join the program.

2. Participants are expected to attend ALL meetings held monthly (see session dates on Calendar page). The orientation session on May 13, 2023 is
MANDATORY for all selected participants AND parents. Failure to attend (participant and parent) will result in cancellation of acceptance to the program.
3. Each participant will be awarded a scholarship of up to $400 ($200 for session attendance plus $200 for perfect attendance), subject to the following conditions:

Participants must have perfect attendance to receive the full $400.

Disbursements for will take place at the conclusion of the July, August, and October sessions, as well as the Culmination Luncheon in December.

Additional conditions to receive the session attendance disbursements include:

July: Participant must have memorized the Principles of Success mantra before the start of the session.

August: Participant must turn in the assignment distributed at the July sessions related to the required reading.

October: Participant must submit their introduction and guest names for the Culmination Luncheon. A sample introduction will be provided for reference.

The $200 ‘perfect attendance bonus' scholarship will be disbursed at the Culmination Luncheon in December. Attendance at the luncheon is required to receive the disbursement.

Failure to turn in a book report that meets the guidelines provided, by the deadline, will result in the forfeiture of the attendance bonus.

One absence will result in the loss of $50 and the $200 'perfect attendance bonus' scholarship.

Two absences will result in automatic dismissal from the program. NO EXCEPTIONS.
4. Unless otherwise directed by the executive director, participants are required to wear a shirt and tie to all program sessions/activities (ties will be made
available if requested).
5. Each participant is required to read a book that will be provided at no cost to the participant, and write a four-page report (typed and double spaced) o on what the participant learned from reading the book.
6. Tardiness/Leaving Early: Multiple (2 or more) occurrences of tardiness/leaving early could result in the loss of the scholarship and/or dismissal from the program. Tardiness is considered arriving to class 5 minutes or more after the 9:30 a.m. start time.
7. No cell phones or other electronic devices may be used during the program sessions outside of those used for the program.

Alumni Participants

Alumni participants must submit an online application and participate in a group interview.

Alumni participants must be able to recite and write the POS Mantra during the interview.

Each alumni participant will be asked to mentor one primary participant (guidelines will be provided).

Alumni participants will be asked to bridge the gap between mentors and mentees during sessions. They may also be asked to serve as peer mentors to first-year participants (guidelines will be provided).

Alumni participants (first-time only) will receive a scholarship of $150 if absent for no more than one monthly session. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Unexcused absences for three sessions will result in dismissal from the program. NO EXCEPTIONS.

The program will pay for the admission cost to the culmination luncheon for each alumni participant only. Relatives/friends/guests of alumni participants must purchase his/her own ticket.
